The Bothy

for The Glenlivet Distillery

FDDS has been entrusted by Chivas Brothers to execute a comprehensive 360-degree design project for The Glenlivet. This ambitious undertaking spans from initial concept creation and experiential design to detailed interior and architectural work. The Bothy, as a concept, is envisioned to take different formats as a permanent fixture in Speyside and as a roll-out model for global markets.

While initially commissioned to enhance the main distillery site, FDDS recommended relocating the premium experience to a more evocative setting. Nestled by the forest atop a hill, adjacent to the original distillery ruins, this new location invites visitors on a captivating journey. The scenic backdrop not only enriches The Glenlivet stories but also elevates the tasting experiences.

Starting from the Experience first, all the way to Architectural Design

The design journey for guests is thoughtfully crafted, incorporating custom furniture, an innovative tasting ritual, and interactive elements that reveal themselves throughout the visit. The architecture of The Bothy takes cues from the local vernacular, featuring expansive openings that blur the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a harmonious blend with the natural surroundings.

This sensitive integration with the environment was key to securing a successful planning application within the Cairngorms National Park, demonstrating FDDS’s commitment to sustainable and contextually aware design.
