for Plymouth Gin Distillery
FDDS was commissioned by Plymouth Distillery to conduct an in-depth study and design overhaul of their historic home.
The project began with a comprehensive analysis of the distillery’s current state, including interviews with visitors and staff to identify existing strengths and areas for improvement. This effort aimed to enhance the visitor journey and optimize the flow within the complexities of a historical building dating back to the 1400s, which has long been the production site of one of the world’s most beloved gin brands. Utilising laser scanning technology, FDDS captured the intricate details of this monumental structure.
From study to successful planning, a complete rework of England’s older working gin distillery.
Drawing on the brand’s heritage, FDDS crafted a narrative that weaves together the life journey of the distillery’s founder, from his beginnings in London to the establishment of Plymouth Gin at the Blackfriars Distillery.
The redesign introduced new spaces and experiences, including an upgraded retail area, an elegant tasting room, a theatre, a martini masterclass, and a revitalised bar. Each element was designed to enrich the visitor experience and celebrate the storied history of Plymouth Gin.
